Our Commitment
Caring for the Land and Water
The Nottoway Indian Tribe of Virginia carries a deep responsibility to protect the natural resources of our ancestral homeland. From the Nottoway River to the forests and fields of Southampton and Surry counties, we work to preserve healthy ecosystems for the benefit of all living things.
Our environmental efforts include water-quality monitoring, native plant restoration, wildlife habitat protection, and educational programs that teach traditional ecological knowledge. We partner with local organizations, state agencies, and neighboring communities to expand the reach of this work.
These efforts are rooted in the understanding that the health of the land is inseparable from the health of our people and our culture.
