The Nottoway Indian Tribe of Virginia is led by a Chief and Tribal Council elected by enrolled citizens. The Council stewards enrollment, cultural preservation, community programs, and government-to-government relations with the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Nottoway Indian Tribe of Virginia was formally recognized by the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2010. Since that time, the Tribal Council has worked to strengthen the Nation through transparent governance, careful stewardship of resources, and ongoing cultural revitalization.
The Council is responsible for enrollment, preservation of tribal history and language, community programming, and government-to-government consultation with state agencies. Detailed council biographies, bylaws, and meeting notices are being prepared for publication here.
